Independent shadow Member of Parliament for Mzuzu City South West, Killy Musukwa, will this weekend, 6–7 September, launch a half-million-kwacha sports bonanza at Sonda Ground, in what he describes as a practical step towards youth empowerment and community development.

The bonanza, which will feature both football and netball teams from different parts of the constituency, is part of Musukwa’s broader vision of using sports to tackle social challenges and nurture talent among young people.

“This bonanza is not just entertainment it is about empowerment. When our youth are kept busy in constructive activities, they run away from drugs, crime, and bad behaviour. My dream is to raise a generation that is focused, disciplined, and ready to contribute to the development of Mzuzu City South West,” said Musukwa.

Msukwa stressed that investing in sports is part of his commitment to tackling unemployment and creating opportunities for young people in the constituency.

“Sports unite us, and at the same time they create platforms for talent identification. Some of these players could one day represent Malawi nationally or even play abroad. That is why I am investing in them today,” he added.

The bonanza sponsorship of K500,000 is just one of the many initiatives Musukwa says he plans to roll out if entrusted with parliamentary leadership. He pledged to continue supporting projects that touch on education, health, and infrastructure alongside youth empowerment.

Community members have welcomed the initiative, with many saying it reflects the kind of leadership that focuses on action rather than empty promises.

The two-day tournament will see winners walk away with prizes from the sponsorship package, while fans enjoy an atmosphere of unity and positive engagement.

“My campaign is about real solutions, not speeches. If we can empower our youth, improve our schools, and strengthen our communities, then together we can build a better Mzuzu City South West,” Musukwa concluded.
