FAM President Fleetwood Haiya Motivates Flames Ahead of Namibia Clash

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President, Fleetwood Haiya, has rallied the Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, with a message of encouragement as they left for Francistown, Botswana, where they are set to face Namibia in the ongoing FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Haiya visited the Flames camp to personally inspire the players before their departure, underscoring the importance of pride, determination, and resilience in representing the nation.

“Today, I visited the Flames camp to motivate them before the team left for Francistown to face Namibia in the World Cup qualifiers. Despite the fact that we are not in contention to qualify for the World Cup finals, there is still a lot to play for, including our FIFA rankings,” said Haiya.

He emphasized that every match remains an opportunity for Malawi to show its footballing strength, maintain competitiveness on the continent, and uplift the spirits of millions of Malawians who look to the Flames as a symbol of national unity and pride.

The FAM President also reminded the team that improving FIFA rankings is crucial, as it influences future seedings and opportunities in regional and international tournaments.

“I wished the team all the best as they go out once again to represent the national flag. Each game gives us a chance to show who we are as Malawians—fighters, dreamers, and proud ambassadors of our nation,” Haiya added.

The Flames, who have shown flashes of brilliance throughout the campaign, will now seek to put up a strong performance against Namibia. Though World Cup qualification may be out of reach, Malawi’s football journey continues to carry hope, passion, and purpose for both players and fans.
