AFORD Condemns Brutal Attack on Chihana’s Convoy in Kasungu
The Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) has strongly condemned the brutal attack on its President, Enock Kamzingeni Chihana, in Kasungu, calling on the Malawi Police Service to immediately investigate, arrest the perpetrators, and guarantee that all citizens can freely exercise their democratic rights without fear or intimidation.
According to AFORD, the incident occurred on Monday, 1st September 2025, when a vehicle bearing registration number KU 2C—driven by two men clad in MCP regalia—deliberately joined Chihana’s convoy with malicious intent, endangering his life.
In a statement dated 1st September 2025, signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary Annie Amatullah Maluwa, AFORD expressed its outrage and deep concern over the attack. The party accused the MCP of resorting to violence and intimidation as the country approaches the 16th September elections, warning that such acts will not deter AFORD’s pursuit of a just, fair, and free Malawi.
“Your violence will not silence us, your intimidation will not weaken us. The voice of the people of Malawi will always rise above desperation,” the statement reads in part.
AFORD has urged Malawians to remain steadfast in defending justice and democracy, describing the assault on Chihana as a desperate attempt to silence the voice of the people.
Meanwhile, well wishers has commended the residents of Kasungu who quickly mobilized to rescue Chihana and his convoy, urging all Malawians to emulate their courage and solidarity.
