The Government of Malawi has officially launched the National Registration Bureau (NRB) Strategic Plan 2025–2030, a landmark framework aimed at achieving universal legal identity, strengthening civil registration systems, and advancing digital transformation in line with the country’s long-term vision, MW2063.

Speaking during the launch in Lilongwe, government officials emphasized that the strategic plan will not only modernize Malawi’s registration systems but also promote inclusivity, transparency, and citizen empowerment.

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with development partners, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Malawi, which has committed technical and financial support to ensure the plan’s success.

UNDP Malawi Deputy Resident Representative, Challa Getachew, underscored the importance of legal identity in improving citizens’ livelihoods.

“Identity is a lifeline. It ensures every Malawian can access healthcare, education, financial services, and exercise their democratic rights. UNDP is proud to stand with Malawi in building systems that leave no one behind,” Getachew said.

The NRB Strategic Plan is expected to boost good governance, facilitate service delivery, and enable the country to leverage digital tools for socio-economic development, ensuring that all Malawians are counted and recognized in the nation’s development journey.
