By Hosea Banda……..

The Super league of Malawi (SULOM) has called for the first ever supporters meeting which will be held at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe this coming Friday April 14, 2023 with an aim to inform the supporters about their role in a game of football.

According to a statement released by SULOM on Wednesday April 12, 2023, the meeting will focus on civic educating the supporters about their role during the and after the game.

“The workshop which will be held at Bingu National Stadium media room will draw heads of supporters committee for all 16 clubs where they will discuss the roles of supporter in football administration,” reads the invite.

Sports Analyst Zachariah Kasakula says their is indeed need to civic educate supporters about their roles in football administration and the act of inciting violence during football matches.

Kasakula was responding to what must be done to avoid the conduct of breaking stadium gates and watching the game for free.

“The football bodies should civic educate the supporters about the conduct of breaking stadium gates and watching football for free, because this conduct brings danger to our football because we are registering loss of gate revenue,” he said.

This has come after some supporters were spotted breaking Bingu National Stadium gates in a match between FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty mukuru wanderers in NBS Charity Shield and another match between Malawi and Egypt in African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) says the match between FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty mukuru wanderers grossed K20 million which will help people who were affected by cyclone Freddy in the southern region of Malawi and has also said 15 people have been arrested for gate fraud during the NBS Bank Charity Shield match at Bingu National Stadium.
