Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) National publicity secretary who is also Member of parliament for Mwanza central honourable Nicholas Harry Dausi has asked DPP President Peter Mutharika to come open if he is going to contest as President in the upcoming convention or not.

Dausi has said this today during a DPP media briefing held at Golden Peacock hotel in Lilongwe following what he calls unlawful endorsements that some members of the party are doing in the name of the party President.

He says the endorsements are dishonest and are destroying the party and they do not abide by the constitution of the party.

“The constitution of our party gives the right to aspire for the presidential candidate and contest freely and not endorsement. Members of parliament have never not been consulted on the endorsements happening and no one is allowed to run the party through the back.”

He further said candidates should be allowed to campaign freely as everyone has the right of supporting candidate without being intimidated, victimisation and dismissals.

“A party can only be strong if it allows diversity of opinions and competition,” he said.

The party is expected to have its conversion by 2 July 2023 where all positions at the party will be vacant and the successful candidates are expected to fill in the positions and the one to be elected presidential candidate will contest in 2025 tripartite elections.

Honourable Kondwani Nankhumwa leader of opposition, Bright Msaka SC, Roseby Gadama, Joseph Mwamveka, and Madalitso Kabambe are some aspirants who are eying the presidential position in the party.
