Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Synod of Livingstonia has donated 180 bags of maze to over 300 households affected by the prolonged dry spells that hit the district early this year.

Addressing the Media following the donation which was supported by friends from Scotland through Kasamba CCAP church General Secretary for the Synod Reverend William Tembo, said the Synod realizes the importance of food as a basic need hence the donation to the affected households.

“We are distributing this relief maize to address the urgent need for food as you know many farming households harvested little hence the hunger that they are facing,” he said.

However Tembo, urged people of Karonga to be proactive in conserving the environment by among other things planting trees in their grounds to offset challenges emanating from climate change.

“If we can conserve the environment we can deal with climate change issues such as prolonged dry spells hence my appeal to communities to conserve the environment,” he articulated.

Ruth Nyondo a beneficiary of the relief maize of Malema village in Traditional Authority Kyungu, expressed gratitude for the timely donation by the synod.

“The situation is really bad, this will save us from the hunger at is already at our doorsteps,” said Nyondo.

On the other hand Joseph Mogha a beneficiary from Ngana in the area of Traditional Authority Mwakaboko, while hailing the Synod for the kind gesture, cautioned fellow beneficiaries against selling the maize as this discourages well-wishers from rendering their assistance to them.
