Malawi 2030 Candidate Kasunda Joins Guangdong-Vietnam Investment Talks
Guangzhou, August 25, 2026 — Political and business leaders from China, Vietnam and Malawi gathered in Guangzhou for the Vietnam Investment Exchange Event hosted by the Guangdong Provincial General Chamber of Commerce.
The forum focused on Guangdong enterprises investing in Vietnam, industrial chain collaboration, and cross-border trade opportunities.
Key Attendees Discuss Asia-Africa Links
His Excellency Jani Grey Kasunda, 2030 Presidential Candidate of the Republic of Malawi, and Mr. Huang Weijian, Vice President of Gonggong News Agency and Director of the International Communication Center, attended the event.

They held talks with Mr. Pham Chi Cuong, Commercial Consul of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Guangzhou, on Vietnam’s investment climate, industrial entry pathways, and China-Vietnam cooperation.
Speaking at the discussion, Commercial Consul Pham Chi Cuong outlined Vietnam’s economic outlook and incentives for foreign investors.
“Vietnam is shifting foreign investment toward high-quality, high-tech industries. We wholeheartedly welcome Guangdong enterprises to establish production bases and R&D centers here,” Pham said. “With the support of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, we can achieve complementary and win-win industrial development.”
He highlighted opportunities in manufacturing, new energy, cultural tourism equipment, and supply chain support, noting Vietnam’s labor advantages and free trade agreement benefits.
Focus on Africa-Asia Cooperation
Kasunda said Vietnam’s manufacturing growth offers lessons for Africa.
“Vietnam’s development experience is worth emulating in Africa. Malawi looks forward to promoting industrial visits and business exchanges with Vietnam and Guangdong to share expertise and explore a multi-win cooperation model,” Kasunda stated. He expressed confidence in stronger economic ties between Southeast Asia and Africa.
Huang Weijian emphasized Guangdong’s close trade ties with Vietnam and proposed a broader platform for cooperation.

“Guangdong and Vietnam are geographically close with strong trade links. Many Guangdong manufacturers choose Vietnam as their first overseas market,” Huang noted. “Under the Belt and Road Initiative, we can build a three-party bridge with media, think tanks and chambers of commerce to help enterprises understand policies, reduce risks, and deliver projects. We can also use the China-Vietnam platform to connect African market resources and create an Asia-Africa industrial corridor.”
Supporting Businesses Going Global
Representatives also discussed challenges for companies expanding abroad, including policy, legal services, and talent.
The Guangdong Provincial General Chamber of Commerce said it will continue to serve as a bridge, providing coordination and cross-border resources to help Guangdong firms enter Southeast Asia.
The event brought together consular officials, overseas dignitaries, business associations, media and think tanks. Organizers said it deepened understanding of Vietnam’s market and laid groundwork for future China-Vietnam industrial partnerships.
