Dowa District Council to Launch 2024 Mass Net Distribution Campaign
The Dowa District Council is set to launch the 2024 Mass Net Distribution Campaign in January 2025, with the goal of providing mosquito nets to all households to support malaria reduction efforts in the district.
Speaking to the District Executive Committee (DEC) in Dowa, District Environmental Health Officer (DEHO) James Mtonga shared that preparatory activities for the campaign began in July 2024.
The campaign will involve several key activities, including briefings for the DEC, District Taskforce, and Area Development Committees (ADC), as well as training for Health Surveillance Assistants who will conduct household registration and community awareness initiatives.
According to Mtonga, the campaign follows a Universal Coverage strategy, aiming to supply one net for every two people, with a cap of four nets per household.
Nets will also be distributed to under-served populations, including orphanages across all 29 districts in the country.
Mtonga urged stakeholders to collaborate in ensuring the success of the campaign and encouraged beneficiaries to use the nets consistently.
“It is everyone’s duty to ensure that nets are used as intended to achieve meaningful progress in malaria prevention,” he said.
He also commended the government’s commitment to protecting citizens through initiatives like the mass net distribution campaign and called on residents to support each other in its implementation.
