ACB arrests former Ngulu Girls Primary School Teacher

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on June 7,2023 arrested former Nguludi Girls Primary School Teacher, Josephine Mkwamba for allegedly receiving salary without working.

According to the press release signed by ACB principal and public relations Officer, Egrita Ndala, Mkwamba abandoned her post as a Teacher for Nursing study but has been receiving salary even though he was not reporting for duty.

ACB said Mkwamba has received a salary of around MK3.9 Million from the Ministry of Education Payroll without working and she has been charged with influencing a Public Officer contrary to section 25B (2) of the Corruption Practices Act, Fraud other False pretense contrary to Section 319A of the Penal Code and Money Laundering contrary to Section 42 (1)(a) of the Financial Crimes Act.

“This follows a complaint recorded by the ACB that Ms Josophine Mkwamba, who abandoned the teaching profession for nursing, was on the Ministry of Education Payroll. The ACB investigated the matter and established that Ms Mkwamba had received a total of MK3,911, 698.05 as salary from ministry of education as she had stopped teaching,” reads the press released in part.

Ndala added that the Headteacher for Nguludi Girls Primary School did not report to Chiradzulu District Education Manager (DEM) about Ms Mkwamba’s abandonment.

Ms Mkwamba was released on bail after paying MK50, 000 Cash and she was asked not to interfere with state witness, report ACB Blantyre Offices once every fortnights on Fridays, not to leave Blantyre City without informing ACB and provide one reliable surety bonded MK500, 000 not cash.

Meanwhile, Mkwamba will appear before the court on July 13, 2023 to give her part of the story on the charges levelled against her.
