By Hosea Banda……
One of the new local music artists has called government to consider music industries by pumping in funds as one way of promoting it.
Malcom Nayenja says government should treat and promote music as it does through its massive support for sports.
“Government should also pump in funds the way it does with sports and other departments so that everyone has the opportunity to be exposed,” Nayeja saids
Nayenja has says this, in response to what should happens so that upcoming artists are recognized in big events.
“Malawi and Malawians as such should not only pay concentration to big brands who have made names already but should also focus on everyone as long as they are making good music.”
He has also revealed that some upcoming artists are suffering financially as they are told to pay event organizers for them to perfom instead of event organisers paying artists a situation that is further inflicting financial pain on them.
“Upcoming artists are not called to big shows and events because there is already a circle of established artists who run the music industry.
“They always occupy slots where upcoming artists are supposed to perform. Inorder to perform as an upcoming artists one should have connections with organizers and pay them to put them on a list of performances,” Nayeja said
He continued to say that this has derailed their future in music industry as they are not blossoming their music career.
“It is affecting many upcoming artists as we end up not fulfilling our potential of making it big in the music industry to headline shows. As a results music is not considered as a business since it is not profitable to the upcoming artists and they end up quitting, because no matter how much effort and investment they put in, they are not recognized hence they are making loses not profit,” Nayeja said.
Malcom Nayenja has encouraged his fellow upcoming artists to unite and and start organizing there events.
“The best way is to make sure that upcoming artists get recognition is to unite and start organizing events by themselves. Another thing is to keep on working hard as nobody’s know what tomorrow might bring.”
