The 2022 T.NM Super League will be an unforgettable for Nyasa Big Bullets Football Club full-back, Gomezgani Chirwa as he has been crowned most performing player.

It was announced at the delayed award presentation ceremony that was held at The Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre on Wednesday evening.

Gomezgani Chirwa was the biggest winner on the night as he walked away with K2.5 Million and two pieces of land after scooping the best defender of the season and player of the season accolades.

Gome was not only good defensively, but also offensively as he managed to score two goals and providing 11 assists as per the Club’s website stats.

He beat his teammate, Patrick Mwaungulu, departed Babatunde Adepoju, Blue Eagles’ defending midfielder, Paul Master to win the most prestigious award while in the category of best defender, he beat Mighty Wanderers’ duo of Miracle Gabeya and Stanley Sanudi and Mafco’s captain, Paul Ndhlovu.

In his maiden season, Patrick Mwaungulu was voted the best midfielder after registering 9 goals and notching up 21 assists- beating departed Chimwemwe Idana and new teammate, Chawanangwa Gumbo who was playing for Ekwendeni Hammers.

New Venda Academy Football Club striker, Babatunde Adebare Adepoju was the best striker after netting 18 goals in 29 games.

Kalisto Pasuwa was named the Coach of the season after managing to defend the league in style- losing only one game out of 30 beating Blue Eagles’ Eliya Kananji and Kamuzu Barracks’ Charles Kamanga whose teams finished second and third respectively.

Blue Eagles goalkeeper, Brighton Munthali walked away with the best goalkeeper of the season award while his teammate, Macdonald Lameck was named the roookie of the season beating Patrick Mwaungulu and Ekwendeni Hammers’ striker Gift Chunga.

The most improved team award went to Blue Eagles who surprisingly challenged for the title after having the worst spell in the previous season.

In media, Nation Publications Limited journalist Joy Ndovie was voted the best in print category with his article titled “relying on the old guards” while Malawi Broadcasting Corporation’s veteran commentator, Steve Liwewe Banda walked away with the best commentator in the radio category.

Best Radio Journalist award was for MBC’s Frank Kandu with his 4-minute, 21 seconds in which he tackled kit sponsorship deals while Best TV reporter award went to Mibawa’s Idah Mwambazi with her 8-minute piece on the effects of hiring and firing coaches.

The best online reporter award went to 24/7 Malawi’s Maclloyd Kadzingo while best photographer (TV) was Richard Issah of TV Islam.

Bobby Kabango of Nation Publications Limited scooped best photojournalist award while Times’ reporter, Mabvuto Kambuwe walked away with the best analyst.

All the winners in media pocketed K250, 000.
