Vice President Usi Concludes Visit to Mozambique Following Independence Celebrations
Vice President Dr. Michael Usi has concluded his official visit to Maputo, Mozambique, where he represented President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera at the country’s 50th independence anniversary celebrations.
During his stay, Dr. Usi joined other international dignitaries in honouring Mozambique’s historic milestone, which also coincided with 50 years of strong bilateral relations between Malawi and Mozambique. The celebrations included a grand parade, cultural performances, and a diplomatic banquet attended by several heads of state and government representatives.
At the Maputo International Airport, Dr. Usi was officially seen off by Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas, Malawi’s High Commissioner to Mozambique, Wezi Moyo, and other senior government officials from both countries.
Speaking before his departure, Dr. Usi described the visit as a reflection of the deep-rooted friendship and cooperation between Malawi and Mozambique. He commended Mozambique for its resilience and progress over the past five decades and reaffirmed Malawi’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic, trade, and cultural ties with its neighbor.
“The celebration was not just about Mozambique’s independence, but also about the shared journey of solidarity, peace, and mutual development between our two nations,” said Dr. Usi.
The Vice President is expected to brief President Chakwera on the outcomes of his engagement and explore further opportunities to enhance Malawi-Mozambique relations in various sectors including energy, agriculture, transport, and education.
