Songwe Border United Ends Losing Streak with 1-1 Draw Against Mzuzu City Hammers
Songwe Border United finally halted their four-match losing streak in the TNM Super League with a 1-1 draw against Mzuzu City Hammers at Mzuzu Stadium.
The result was a welcome relief for the struggling side, who had been searching for their first point of the season.
Mzuzu City Hammers took the lead in the 29th minute through Gerald Ngwira, who converted a pass from Chimwemwe Kaliyala. However, Songwe Border United responded in the 63rd minute with an equalizer from Lusekero Kishombe.
Songwe Border United head coach Christopher Nyambose described the result as a crucial step forward and acknowledged the difficulties his team had faced in recent matches.
“It was not easy for the boys, coming off four consecutive losses. I told them the game is not over until it’s over,” Nyambose said. He also praised his players for their determination and resilience, which ultimately earned them the much-needed point.

Meanwhile, Mzuzu City Hammers head coach Steven Nkwinika pointed to a red card as a turning point in the match.
“The red card did some damage, and it confused us,” Nkwinika said. “But we will work hard and bounce back stronger.”
Despite the positive outcome, Songwe Border United remains at the bottom of the table with just 1 point from 5 matches. Mzuzu City Hammers sit 14th with 4 points from 4 games.
In other Super League action, Civil Service United and Chitipa United also shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw at Karonga Stadium, adding more intrigue to the unfolding season.
