Mwamlima, Five Councillors Go Unopposed in MCP Primaries for Mzuzu South-East
Bennex Mwamlima, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Mzuzu City Constituency under the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), has been confirmed as the party’s candidate for the newly demarcated Mzuzu South-East Constituency in the upcoming September 16 General Elections after going unchallenged in the primary elections held today.
The primary polls, conducted at the MCP regional offices in Mzuzu, were overseen by Matthias Kanjere Mgemezulu, the party’s National Deputy Director of Elections.

In the Local Government primaries, five councillors have also secured MCP tickets unopposed. These include Edward Kasyololo Simwaka (Chibavi-East Ward), Tony Mwentete (Mzilawayingwe Ward), Isaiah Msukwa (Masasa Ward), Monica Simwaka, who is also the Deputy Mayor of Mzuzu City (Katawa Ward), and Francis Chirambo (Msongwe Ward).
Speaking after the exercise, Mgemezulu emphasized the party’s firm stance against members who lose primaries and choose to contest as independents.

“Once you lose and decide to go independent, it clearly means you’ve resigned from the party. MCP will not tolerate such behavior,” he warned. “We expect unity and loyalty as we head toward the elections”.
