Skies Dominate Southern Taekwondo Tournament
Skies Taekwondo Club stamped its authority on the Southern Region Taekwondo Tournament after emerging as the overall best-performing team in the two-day competition held at Namame Primary School in Blantyre.
The club finished top of the team standings at the tournament, organised by the Taekwondo Association of Malawi (TAM) from September 5 to 6, ahead of Cobbe Barracks Taekwondo Club and BYC Taekwondo Club, which finished second and third, respectively.

Skies’ dominance was further underlined by individual honours, with Muhammad Wadi being named Best Male Athlete, while his clubmate Lucy Mphande walked away with the Best Female Athlete award.
The double individual success, coupled with the club’s overall team triumph, made Skies the standout side of the tournament, which brought together clubs and athletes from across the Southern Region.
Southern Region Taekwondo Chairperson Kenjasi Banda hailed the competition as a success, attributing the outcome to the commitment of athletes, clubs, coaches and officials.

“We are satisfied with the outcome of this year’s tournament. The commitment demonstrated by the clubs, athletes, coaches and officials has contributed greatly to the success of the competition,” Banda said.
He said the tournament had given athletes an important opportunity to test their abilities against fellow competitors while gaining valuable experience.
TAM President Louis Msukwa also congratulated the Southern Region leadership and organising team for successfully staging the tournament.
“I am pleased with the way the Southern Region has organised this tournament. Competitions of this nature are important because they help us identify and nurture talent while preparing our athletes for higher-level competitions,” Msukwa said.

Msukwa said TAM would continue supporting regional competitions as part of its efforts to strengthen athlete development and build a stronger national taekwondo team.
For Skies, the tournament victory provides further evidence of the club’s growing strength, with its athletes combining team success with individual excellence on the regional stage.
