Ntcheu set for economic boost as stadium reopens

Businesses and sports development in Ntcheu are expected to receive a major boost following the government’s decision to lift the stop order on the nearly completed Ntcheu Stadium.
The facility, which has remained idle despite being about 95 percent complete, is now set to resume operations after engagements between stakeholders and government officials in Lilongwe.
Ntcheu Central legislator Paul Wongani Ng’oma said the reopening comes as a relief to communities and local teams that have struggled without a proper venue. He noted that the stadium’s activation will stimulate economic activity, create opportunities for vendors, and enhance revenue generation for the district council.
Local authorities also welcomed the development, highlighting that sports teams have been relying on school grounds, a situation that has affected competitive football in the district.
With a sitting capacity of 20,000, the stadium is expected to host major matches, potentially attracting national and international fixtures while accelerating completion works through Constituency Development Fund (CDF) support.
The reopening marks a significant step towards unlocking Ntcheu’s sports and economic potential after years of inactivity.
