“This is the time to change things. We vote once and suffer long—let’s think before we vote.”

United Transformation Movement (UTM) parliamentary candidate for Mzuzu City South East, Catherine Nyangulu, visited the Mzuzu Hardware Market to share her manifesto and listen to the concerns of traders.

Speaking during her engagement, Nyangulu emphasized the need for transparent and targeted development, especially for women and the youth.

“There is 10 percent of funds in Parliament allocated for women and youth, but for years, no one here has benefited from it. Once I am voted into Parliament, that money will go exactly where it belongs,” she stated.

Nyangulu, a retired banker with over 30 years of experience, said she is ready to apply her financial expertise to drive meaningful development.

“I am here to promote development. My background in banking gives me the knowledge and discipline needed to manage resources effectively. We must elect leaders who know how to handle development projects,” she said.

She pledged to support the youth and women by helping them form business groups and assured them of her commitment to top up their group funds. In a gesture of goodwill, she paid salaries for market security guards for the month of May.

Nyangulu further urged citizens to vote wisely on September 16, saying, “Let’s elect people who can bring back development. I can write proposals and help secure loans from global organizations. Let’s give a woman a chance in Parliament.”

She concluded her remarks with a strong appeal to voters:

“I am humbly asking you to vote for me, Catherine Nyangulu, as your Member of Parliament for Mzuzu City South East, and support Dr. Dalitso Kabambe as the next President of Malawi. Together, we will deliver the real change this country needs.”

Mzuzu Hardware Market Chairperson, John Mhango, welcomed Nyangulu and applauded her initiative to engage the community.

“We are from different political parties, but we welcome every candidate who comes to share their vision. We ask that you assist small capital businesses, rehabilitate our toilets, and help with parking slabs to improve customer convenience,” said Mhango.

He also highlighted the market’s security challenges.

“We currently have only six security guards. We need at least 20. We also need electric lights installed in and around the market to improve security,” he added.

Mhango requested support for sports equipment to promote health among traders of all ages.

One of the businesswomen, Tamala Fweta, appealed for access to loans to boost their businesses.

“We believe in you. This time, people won’t miss the chance to elect a reliable candidate like Catherine Nyangulu,” she said.

The visit concluded with positive responses from traders who expressed hope that Nyangulu’s promises, alongside Dr. Kabambe’s presidential leadership, would bring lasting change to the constituency and the nation.
