Business tycoon aids two Karonga teams with 1.3m
Daniel Chitonya Mwanyongo a business magnate from Karonga has donated 800 and 500 thousand kwacha respectively to TNM Super league side Karonga United and Northern Region premier league side Baka City FC.
Speaking in an interview on Thursday after making the donation, Mwanyongo, said he thought of making the donation to motivate and boost morale of the two teams.
“I am a bona fide son of Karonga hence I thought it wise to give something back to these two teams to motivate them ahead of their upcoming league assignments,” he said.
Adding that the donation is not to gain any popularity but for the love of the game and the two teams.
On his part Chairperson for Karonga United Alufeyo Chipanga banda, expressed gratitude for the timely financial support.
“As Karonga United we are thankful for the assistance given to us, it is not every son of Karonga who has a kind and giving heart like that of Mwanyongo as he is always there for us aiding us whenever he can hence our profound gratitude to him,” said a smiling Banda.
On the other hand, Baka City FC Chairperson Bentley Jembe, appealed to other well-wishers to emulate the spirit shown by Mwanyongo.

Saying as community run clubs they often struggle to raise financial resources for the team’s activities and assignments throughout the season.
Currently Karonga United sit 11th in the TNM Super League standings with 21 points from 17 matches while Baka City are in 6th place in the NRFA SIMSO and Innobuild last eight after qualifying first in their pool section.
