Jane Ansah Turns Cancer Survival into a Powerful Call for Early Screening
Malawi Vice President Dr Jane Mayemu Ansah has donated K2 million towards breast cancer awareness initiatives, urging Malawians to prioritise early screening, timely diagnosis and professional treatment to prevent avoidable deaths.
Speaking at the Diaries of a Young Lady Breast Cancer Fundraising Brunch at Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe on Saturday, October 10, 2026, Ansah drew on her experience as a cancer survivor to emphasise that cancer is a disease, not a sin, and that prayer should complement, rather than replace, medical care.
Ansah commended breast cancer survivors for their courage and resilience, assuring them that their scars do not diminish their beauty or worth. She also urged the government, businesses, civil society organisations and communities to work together to make cancer information, screening and treatment more accessible.
She further called for healthcare to be treated as an essential service rather than merely a business, stressing that greater awareness must translate into practical action to help more Malawians detect cancer early, seek medical attention without fear and improve their chances of survival.
