Zomera Farm donates Trees to Chigomezgo VSL……
Mzuzu based Zomera Fruit Propagation Farm on Thursday donated fruit trees to people of Njiri area in Chigwere in Nkhatabay district with the aim of ensuring the community have fruits.
Speaking after donation Zomera Fruit Propagation Farm, Executive Director, Matrida Mlotha says they donated the fruits trees to Chigomezgo Village Savings and Loans as one way of ensuring they have fruits in their homes and as a source of income through selling fruits.
“We thought of donating the fruit trees so that these families have fruits in their homes for consumption and for income, they may also sell the fruits in the future”. Mlotha said.
Mlotha further said the team from Zomera thought of donating grafted trees which start bearing fruits after 24 months which is a shorter time compared to ungrafted trees to reduce the time to maturity.
Speaking after receiving the trees, Chairperson for Chigomezgo Village Savings and Loans, Martha Shaba commended the farm for the donation saying they will take care of the trees so that their homes have fruits and sell in future.
“We are grateful with this donation from Zomera Fruit we have hope that some years from now we will be having fruits in our homes for both home consumption and for selling, we have plans to buy more trees from them in future.” Shaba Said.
