Alex Banda Pledges to Improve Journalists’ Welfare
Journalist Alex Banda, who is contesting for the position of Chairperson for media body MISA Malawi, has pledged to work closely with the Journalists Union of Malawi (JUMA) and the Communication Workers Union of Malawi (COWUMA) to improve the welfare and working conditions of journalists across the country.
Banda made the remarks during an engagement meeting with reporters in Dedza, where he outlined some of the priorities in his campaign ahead of the MISA Malawi elections scheduled for Saturday.
He said journalists in Malawi continue to face a number of challenges, including poor working conditions, low salaries and unequal opportunities in the media industry, stressing that his leadership would focus on promoting fairness and professionalism.
Banda further said that once elected as MISA Malawi Chairperson, he will work to ensure that all journalists are treated equally regardless of their media houses, gender or background.
“We want to build a media industry where every journalist feels valued, protected and given equal opportunities to grow professionally,” he said.
He also emphasised the need for stronger collaboration among media stakeholders in addressing issues affecting journalists and promoting press freedom in the country.
Alex Banda is competing against Innocent Mphangolo, Janet Mtali and Felix Washoni in the highly anticipated MISA Malawi elections set for Saturday.
