Politician Ken Ndanga has claimed that several senior Malawi Congress Party (MCP) figures, including immediate past cabinet ministers, are privately sending congratulatory messages to President-Elect Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.

According to Ndanga, some ministers who do not have direct contact with Mutharika are passing their messages through close associates of the President-Elect, wishing him success in his new term.

He expressed pity for those, particularly MCP’s running mate Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba, who are still mobilizing protests in Lilongwe, demanding that Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja declare President Lazarus Chakwera the winner or call for a re-run.

Writing on his Facebook page, Ndanga mocked MCP’s expectations, saying the party hoped that “those who slept at fuel stations, those who survived on chitedze as food, and people stranded at immigration offices for passports” would turn out in large numbers to vote for Chakwera. He added that tobacco farmers frustrated by unsold bales stuck in satellite depots were also unlikely to back MCP.

Ndanga further criticized MCP for sidelining individuals who invested resources and energy to help the party rise to power in 2019 and 2020, saying they have since been “dumped and treated as useless.” He questioned how the party expected to secure victory under such conditions.

The politician also commended MEC Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja for what he described as professionalism and integrity in handling the election. “No one expected her to deliver fairly, being labeled as an MCP agent, but she has proved to Malawians and the world that she knows the laws of Malawi. She is God-sent; we shall continue praying for her. Long live multiparty democracy,” wrote Ndanga.

Adding her voice, Mrs. Elizabeth Kaliza Banda, a resident of Area 51 in Lilongwe, praised Justice Mtalimanja for ably managing the election results and urged her to remain firm in the face of MCP-led protests.

Kaliza said most Malawians who voted for MCP on September 16, 2025, have already accepted defeat. She questioned why Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba and Dr. Jessie Kabwila are still protesting when, in her words, “it is clear to Malawians that Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika won the election.”

She further warned Mumba, citing his alleged involvement in scandals such as fake passports, the Marka railway project in Nsanje, and questionable NOCMA deals. Kaliza argued that his continued defiance could lead to treason charges for “undermining the will of the voters.”

“Malawians spoke through the ballot by rejecting President Chakwera and MCP. If Mumba, Dr. Kabwila, or anyone else insists that Chakwera won, let them bring evidence to MEC instead of making noise in Lilongwe,” Kaliza said.
