Mzuzu University Set to Launch Campus Radio Station

The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) is set to launch a new campus radio station at Mzuzu University. The station, Mzuni Campus Radio, will broadcast on 107.6 FM and is expected to be fully operational in the near future.

This initiative is part of MACRA’s broader strategy to improve access to information and communication nationwide through the establishment of community and campus radio stations.

Sky Sport Technology, the company implementing the project, stated that the station will promote creativity and innovation at Mzuzu University. The company is currently fine-tuning the frequency to ensure optimal sound quality and is encouraging residents in the Mzuni area to provide feedback to help enhance the broadcast.

The launch of Mzuni Campus Radio marks a significant milestone for the university. Ziliro Mchulu, a social commentator and lecturer in the Department of Communication Studies, emphasized the station’s potential to positively impact both students and the surrounding community.

“The community will be engaged, and people will have a platform to showcase their skills—whether it’s poetry, music, or other forms of creative expression,” he said. “Students will also gain valuable practical experience in broadcasting.”

Mzuni Campus Radio will be one of only three radio stations in the Northern Region of Malawi, joining Unenesko as one of the newest additions under MACRA’s development initiatives.

As the launch date approaches, excitement is growing within the university community. The station is expected to enrich campus life by offering a platform for dialogue, entertainment, and learning.

Programming will include a diverse mix of music, news, and educational content. It will also serve as a training ground for students—particularly those in communication studies—offering hands-on experience in media production and broadcasting.
