St James CCAP Congregation under the Mzuzu City Presbytery has expressed satisfaction with the overwhelming commitment demonstrated by its members in surpassing the K20 million target set for the church roofing project.
Speaking in an interview on Monday, the church’s Fundraising Chairperson, Mercy Munthali Msukwa, attributed the remarkable achievement to the congregation’s unity and generosity, which she said played a pivotal role in the success of the initiative.
Msukwa said the achievement reflects the rapid growth of the church, which is clearly evident in the members’ strong commitment to giving.
“Our unity is evident even in giving. Christians are highly committed, and I am pleased that we have surpassed the target. From sections to the vestry and the session, there is unity,” she said.
She further commended the church leadership, noting that under the guidance of the minister, congregants are well nurtured and understand the importance of giving.
“We are thankful for the good leadership of our pastor, which is encouraging Christians to give wholeheartedly because they see where their contributions are going,” she added.
She also appealed to well-wishers to support the building project, noting that it has reached an advanced stage that requires collective effort from people of goodwill. She acknowledged the support from Member of Parliament for Chitipa South Chance Munthali and Councillor for Masasa Geisha Ward, Sam Sambo, who are both members of the church.
In his sermon, Reverend Larson A.C. Kamanga applauded the congregants for their dedication, describing them as people who understand who they are serving.
He said their commitment has consistently been demonstrated through various fundraising activities conducted by the church.

“We all give, but the only difference is where the money or resources go. Everyone has a reason to give. Look at how well you are living here on earth. I have every reason to give to God,” said Kamanga.
He added that the achievement reflects the work of a wonder-working God within the congregation.
“Look at your neighbor and tell them that we are moving out of a timber-built church. This is St James, where God manifests,” he said.
The fundraising initiative, which took place on Sunday, aimed to raise K20 million for roofing the church, a goal that has now been successfully exceeded.
