Vice President Dr Jane Ansah has called for unity among Malawians for the betterment of the country, emphasising the need for people to work together across political, religious and social lines to foster national development.

The First Vice President made the remarks on Sunday in Blantyre during the closing ceremony of the Upper and Lower Shire Joint Mega Conference of the Zambezi Evangelical Church, held at Misidi Synod Ground.

“Malawians need greater cooperation among religious leaders, traditional authorities, civil society, political leaders, businesses and government,” said Ansah.

She said a spiritually renewed society should promote honesty, compassion, responsibility and peace, while encouraging citizens to care for vulnerable people, protect the environment and contribute to national development.

In his remarks, Zambezi Evangelical Church Synod Chairman Reverend Robert Mambeya appealed for government support in addressing challenges facing the church.

“As the church, we have been partnering with government for decades with the aim of contributing to national development through various initiatives such as schools, hospitals and colleges, while encouraging youths and promoting farming through various interventions,” said Mambeya.

The conference was held under the theme “A Season of Spiritual Awakening.”
