DGS Calls for Proper Wedding Blessings in CCAP Synod of Livingstonia Churches
Deputy General Secretary of the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia, Reverend Isaiah Vwiyapo Mhone, has urged ministers across the Synod to officiate wedding blessings only for couples who are at least 18 years old.
Mhone made the remarks on Saturday during the Mama Presbytery deliberations held at St. Andrews CCAP Church in the Mzuzu Congregation.
He said ministers should verify the ages of prospective couples by checking their National Identity Cards or birth certificates before conducting wedding blessing ceremonies.
“We are supporting the government’s efforts to end child marriages, which remain prevalent in some communities, while at the same time protecting the integrity and dignity of the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia,” Mhone said.
He added that, as a Christian institution, the Synod is committed to promoting marriages that comply with both biblical teachings and the laws of Malawi.
Meanwhile, CCAP Synod of Livingstonia Moderator-Elect Reverend Wisdom Sanga Mwale called on presbyteries to strengthen their financial sustainability to ensure the Church’s continued growth and effective operations.
“For the Church to continue serving effectively, we need to invest in various income-generating initiatives that will sustain our ministries and support the growth of the Church,” Mwale said.
He further emphasized that the Synod’s spiritual growth should go hand in hand with sustainable economic empowerment.
Commenting on the deliberations, Mzuzu City Presbytery Moderator Reverend Cronon B.H. Mazunda pledged his full support for the Synod’s vision and programmes, saying the Presbytery remains committed to advancing the Church’s mission and objectives.

Meanwhile, former Synod of Livingstonia Deputy General Secretary Maurice Munthali appealed for unity among members as the Synod prepares for its forthcoming General Assembly.
“I wish you all the best during the forthcoming General Assembly. Let us accept whoever is elected to serve in the various leadership positions of the Synod and remain united in Christ,” Munthali said.
Mama Presbytery is a regional church body comprising at least six congregations within a specific geographical area under the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia.
