Two arrested over murder of 60-year-old man in Chitipa

Police in Chitipa have arrested two men in connection with the murder of a 60-year-old man, Flaywell Sichalwe, of Yanga One Village under Senior Chief Kameme in Chitipa District.

Chitipa Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Rabson Mkandawire identified the suspects as George Kalinga, 41, and Briton Mwamphachi, 45, both from Ipenza 6 Village under Senior Chief Kameme.

Mkandawire said the arrests followed investigations into the death of Sichalwe, who was allegedly murdered on the night of June 30, 2026, at his home in Yanga One Village.

According to police, Sichalwe left his home that night to drink beer before returning home. The following morning, he was found dead inside his house, lying in a pool of blood.

“On the said date, the deceased went out to drink beer. The following morning, he was found dead inside his house, lying in a pool of blood,” Mkandawire said.»

He said a post-mortem examination conducted at Kameme Health Centre established that Sichalwe died from severe blood loss.

The two suspects are expected to appear before court soon to answer a charge of murder contrary to Section 209 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, Chitipa Police have warned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that anyone found responsible for unlawfully taking another person’s life will face the full force of the law.
