Tumbuka Festivity Gona Pamuhanya Concludes with Grand Ceremony

A massive crowd gathered at the Kadumuliro Cultural Site near Bolero in Rumphi for this year’s Tumbuka Festivity, Gona Pamuhanya, which took place today, Saturday.

The Tumbuka Paramount Chief, Themba La Mathemba Chikulamayembe, made a grand entrance, surrounded by enthusiastic chants and celebratory singing from his subjects.

The event was attended by several high-profile guests, including former State President Dr. Joyce Banda, Deputy Minister of Local Government Owen Chomanika, and various paramount chiefs from neighboring tribes.

Notable attendees included Mzimba Ngoni Paramount Chief Inkosi Ya Makhosi M’mbelwa 5, Paramount Chief Lundu of the Mang’anja Tribe, Traditional Authority Mphamba of the Tumbuka people around Lundazi in Zambia, and Ngonde Paramount Chief Mtemi wa Ŵatemi Kyungu. A representative of Paramount Chief Gomani was also present.

The ceremony also marked the installation of Sub-T/A Boma and the promotion of T/A Mwahenga to Senior Chief, following approvals by State President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

This significant event was a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the Tumbuka people and their traditions.
