Silver thump Bangwe to go second
By Antony Isaiah Jr…..
Silver Strikers have climbed the table to second place after a drubbing 4-1 win over struggling Bangwe All Stars at Bingu National Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Former TN Stars, Stain Davie and Chimwemwe Idana put on a show which saw the first one scoring a hat-trick with the later bagging a hat-trick of assists. Patrick Macheso scored the fourth goal for Silver while Chikumbutso Salima scored the consolation goal for Bangwe.
The Central Bankers are now just two points behind Bullets who hammered Red Lions 4-0 on Sunday. Silver have 15 points while Bulllets have 17 points with Wanderers coming third with 14 points from the same number of games (seven).
A good start it was from both sides but it was the hosts, Silver who had played two games without a goal and M’balaka had hit the crossbar from the set-piece and on response, Stars tried to shone but Charles Thom was equally ready to put off their fire.
A wait for goal was over as Stain Davie scored the opener. Chimwemwe Idana and Chinsisi Maonga combined and the Mbeya City man set up Davie who just tapped it in to give the Bankers the much-needed lead before doubling the lead 12 minutes later.
Chikumbutso had pulled one back towards the half-hour mark from the spot.
Two changes within 35 minutes as Fanizo Mwasambo and Ackim Ousman paved way for Hadji Wali and Asumani John.
Patrick Macheso dashed out Stars’ hopes of a comeback when he scored the third goal for Silver. It was a day for Davie who despite already having two goals to his berth, he had an assist to Macheso.
Stain Davie rattled the crossbar after being set by Tatenda M’balaka to the rescue of Stars but the demolition couldn’t be avoided as the Number 9 had his third of the day as Chimwemwe Idana had his third assist of the game.
It was a third defeat for Bangwe All Stars consecutively. Suspending Mabvuto Lungu just worsened the situation as they suffered their heaviest defeat in the Super League.
Bangwe are rocked to the bottom three of the table with six points from seven games and they will face Red Lions in their next game.
The next task for Silver Strikers is Kamuzu Barracks who were beaten 1-0 by Civil Service United on Sunday. Binwell Katinji scored the only goal and he has now scored two in two games.
In Mzuzu, Gastin Simkonda cancelled Tonic Viyuyu’s strike with 10 minutes to go for Moyale Barracks to salvage a point against Blue Eagles.
Moyale Barracks are now 6th with 10 points while Blue Eagles are 9th with 8 points.
In Dedza, Mighty Tigers finished their assignment in the Central Region with another draw against Dedza Dynamos.
Clement Nyondo opened the scores for Dedza in the first half to take his tally to 5 this season but Trouble Kajani cancelled it just two minutes into the second-half.
Dedza Dynamos are a point off the danger zone with seven points from seven games while Tigers are 11th with 8 points.
