“Protect Chilima’s Legacy Through Clean Politics” – Reverend Ng’ambi Urges Youth
Reverend Luneta Ng’ambi of the Holy Trinity Congregation under the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia in Mzuzu has called on young politicians to uphold the legacy of the late UTM founder and former Vice President, Dr. Saulos Chilima, by embracing clean and visionary politics.
“Chilima and the UTM brought the legacy that needs to be embraced, protected, and sustained if Malawi is to achieve tangible socio-economic growth and development,” said Reverend Ng’ambi during Easter prayers.

He made the remarks while commending renowned sports enthusiast and church member, Killy Msukwa, who has formally declared his intention to contest as Member of Parliament for Mzuzu City South-West constituency.
“What Killy Msukwa has done is a welcome development — informing the church about his political ambitions. But let me advise you and other young people to practise clean politics that is free from violence,” Ng’ambi emphasized.

In response, Msukwa thanked the church for its role in fostering good governance, adding that its teachings resonate with the values Chilima championed.
“Christianity emphasizes peace and love values that align with Saulos Chilima’s legacy, which serves as the foundation for UTM’s vision,” Msukwa stated.

Jonathan Vumu, Session Clerk of the church and Executive Director of the Livingstonia Synod AIDS Program (LISAP), echoed the sentiment, describing political engagement by congregants as a positive sign of the church’s growing relevance in national affairs.
However, Vumu also highlighted financial challenges facing the church, particularly due to the depreciation of the local currency, which has severely affected plans to construct the Holy Trinity Prayer House.
“We had a budget of K180 million, but the recent bill of quantities presented to us totalled slightly over K300 million. Currency is the issue,” he explained.

He appealed to well-wishers to support the project, which serves a congregation of over 1,000 members.
