NRFA Delegates applaud Chairperson Khonje
Northern Region Football Association Annual General Meeting delegates have applauded Chairperson Lameck Zetu Khonje for his charismatic leadership in uplifting football in the region.
Several delegates who spoke after Khonje announced during Annual General Meeting on Sunday 12 November 2023 in Chitipa that he is vying for Fam’s second vice presidency in the next month’s elections described him as a servant of the game.
Commenting on his candidature Chairperson for Mzuzu District Football Committee Mapopa Mgemezulu said the delegates are hopeful that Khonje will win the post as and continue serving football passionately as demonstrated.
“Chair we as delegates wish you all the best and we believe you will win and that you will continue to assist us as you have been doing, you are just a phone call away from us and we believe FAM will gain if you go there.” Mgemezulu said.
Responding to the calls from members Khonje assured the delegates of his continued support for the betterment of football.
“I would like to assure you of my continued support whether I join Fam or not but I am sure that I will win as a family I believe and if I leave you will be in the safe hands of the association’s committee and be assured of my usual support.” said Khonje while receiving applause from the delegates.
Khonje showed his generosity by buying Chitipa United replica jerseys for every delegates who attended the meeting costing him close to K1 million.

“I said that I want everyone at the AGM to be in Chitipa United jersey as one way of supporting our last season’s ambassador who is doing well in the top flight.” Khonje added.
Khonje however expressed his worry with the performance of Moyale Barracks and Ekwendeni Hammers in the super league saying the two teams do not deserve to be fighting for relegation as is the case.
During the meeting the association’s longest serving treasurer Chauka Mwasinga replaced vice Chairperson Mabuchi Mkandawire who has been out of the country for years while Felix Chipeta was chosen as the new treasurer to suit the constitutional demand of having a qualified accountant as association’s treasurer.
The association is expected to hold another AGM in Nkhatabay next year.
