National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has condemned the use of tear gas against his supporters during a campaign roadshow in Lusaka’s Kalingalinga-Mtendere area.

Speaking after the incident, Mundubile said the campaign was intended to peacefully engage with residents ahead of the general election.

“We came in peace to meet the people. We were met with tear gas,” he said.

Mundubile described the roadshow as peaceful and lawful, arguing that the use of tear gas against citizens exercising their constitutional right to assemble was unjustified.

He maintained that the incident would not deter the NRPUP from continuing its nationwide campaign, emphasizing the party’s commitment to peaceful, issue-based politics and adherence to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) campaign guidelines.

Mundubile further called on authorities to ensure all political parties are given equal opportunity to engage with voters, warning that acts of intimidation could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

He concluded by urging citizens to remain calm and continue exercising their democratic rights without fear.

The people deserve to be heard,” Mundubile said, reaffirming his commitment to taking the party’s message to communities across the country.
