MUBAS Graduation 2025: A Girl’s Resilience and Professionalism
Malawi has, for years, championed girl-child education as a critical pathway to achieving gender equality.
While cultural resistance from guardians and girls themselves has sometimes hindered this progress, positive strides continue to be made. More young women are embracing the value of education, and one inspiring example is Charity Ng’omaikalira, born in 1992.
Charity is among the 344 graduates who recently earned certificates, diplomas, and degrees from the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS). The graduation ceremony, held on Monday, May 26, 2025, was presided over by the institution’s Chancellor, President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera. Of the 344 graduates, 237 were male and 107 female.
Currently serving as the Assistant Public Relations Officer at Blantyre City Council, Charity brings nearly a decade of experience in journalism and public relations. Her expertise spans strategic communication, media relations, crisis management, and stakeholder engagement.
She holds a Bachelor of Business Communication from MUBAS, earned in 2024, and a Diploma in Journalism from The Polytechnic University of Malawi.
Over the years, Charity has played a pivotal role in safeguarding the Council’s public image. She has successfully led media coordination efforts and crafted impactful messaging on key developmental issues, including sanitation, climate change, and civic engagement.
Charity Ng’omaikalira stands as a testament to resilience and professionalism—a rising voice in Malawi’s public sector and a symbol of women leading meaningful change in their communities.
This graduation marks the second MUBAS congregation since the institution was delinked from the University of Malawi in 2021.
