Malawi, UAE Deepen Ties: President Chakwera Hosts Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed for High-Level Bilateral Talks
President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera on Tuesday welcomed His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe for high-level bilateral discussions aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic cooperation.
The historic one-day visit by Sheikh Abdullah marks a significant step in the growing relationship between Malawi and the UAE, following President Chakwera’s official trip to the Emirates in December 2024.
During the talks, the two countries signed key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) focusing on diplomacy, trade, mining, and education—sectors critical to Malawi’s national development agenda.
“This engagement is a reflection of Malawi’s commitment to building strategic global partnerships that can unlock investment, job creation, and innovation in our economy,” said President Chakwera.

“The UAE is proud to collaborate with Malawi in areas that matter to both our peoples—education, economic growth, and sustainable development,” said Sheikh Abdullah.
The visit and signed agreements are expected to pave the way for long-term cooperation, infrastructure development, and knowledge exchange between the two nations.
