The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has issued a strong warning to politicians and those in authority to refrain from making statements that promote violence, especially as the country prepares for the 2025 General Elections.

This warning comes after the arrest of DPP Regional Governor for the Eastern Region, David Chikwanje, who was seen in a video clip encouraging DPP followers to attack and kill MCP supporters.

The MPS reminded all that inciting violence is a crime under section 87 of the Penal Code and that they will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute those involved.

Chikwanje’s arrest was applauded by the MCP media team, who had alerted the police to take action against him.

However, some have accused the MCP of applying selective justice, citing incidents where MCP youth members allegedly attacked DPP members without facing consequences.

Rodgers Kamphangala, an MCP diehard, called on President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to discipline his youth, claiming they are the ones inciting violence in Malawi.

The situation highlights the need for calm and peaceful dialogue ahead of the 2025 elections.

All parties must work together to prevent violence and ensure a free and fair electoral process.
