Dr. Dalitso Kabambe’s candidacy for the presidency is gaining momentum as he continues his whistle stop tour across Machinga, using the campaign trail to present himself as the solution to Malawi’s economic challenges.

On day two of the tour, Kabambe made a stop at the Nayuchi border where residents, led by Nayuchi Market Chairperson Davison Mwansisi, lamented the collapse of cross-border trade due to the continued depreciation of the Malawi kwacha against the Mozambican metical.

Rather than dwell on the complaints, Dr. Kabambe used the moment to outline his bold economic recovery plan, emphasizing that his UTM-led government would bring macroeconomic stability, restore confidence in the currency, and revive commercial activity in border districts like Nayuchi.

“We cannot fix trade when our economy is broken. My leadership will prioritize economic discipline and stabilization so that businesses like those here at Nayuchi can thrive again,” said Kabambe.

He further pledged to transform Malawi’s agriculture sector through crop diversification and industrialization. “We will move beyond subsistence farming. Our agenda includes value addition to agricultural produce and even animal skins, creating new revenue streams and jobs,” he added.

Kabambe’s campaign is positioning him as an economist-turned-politician who is ready to move Malawi from economic survival to economic growth. As the September 16 General Elections draw near, he continues to present a practical message focused on restoration, reform, and opportunity.
