German Authority to Release Final Report on Fatal Plane Crash in Summer 2025
The German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) has announced that its final report on the tragic plane crash, which claimed the lives of Vice President Saulos Chilima and eight others, is expected to be published in the summer of 2025.
The interim report and safety recommendations released thus far provide crucial insights, but the full report will offer a comprehensive analysis.
The BFU’s Interim Report, available in both German and English on their website (www.bfu-web.de/EN/), outlines the facts confirmed up to this point. It details the sequence of events leading up to the crash and includes significant information relevant to the search and rescue efforts that followed. The report also highlights two Safety Recommendations: one directed to the Minister of Defence and the other to the Minister of Transport and Public Works of the Republic of Malawi.
The investigation is still underway, with further inquiries required into human, technological, and environmental factors. The BFU’s final report will include a thorough analysis of these elements, drawing conclusions, and identifying the causes of the accident.
It is important to note that the BFU’s primary goal is accident prevention. The investigation aims to enhance safety measures and prevent future incidents, rather than addressing fault, liability, or compensation claims. The final report will be released in both German and English on the BFU’s website in the summer of 2025.
