Brian Banda’s Family Mourns Beloved Brother
By Burnett Munthali……..
The family of late Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Director General Brian Banda is mourning the loss of a beloved brother, with his relative, Dereck Phiri, describing him as a dependable and supportive member of the family.
Speaking during the funeral proceedings, Phiri said the family has been deeply affected by Banda’s death, particularly because of the important role he played in their lives.
He described the late broadcaster as a brother who was always there for his family and whose presence will be greatly missed.
Phiri said Banda was more than just a sibling, describing him as a source of support and strength. His death, he said, has left an irreplaceable gap within the family as relatives struggle to come to terms with his sudden passing.
The family’s grief adds a deeply personal dimension to the widespread mourning following Banda’s death. While members of the media fraternity have remembered him for his professional contributions and leadership, his relatives are mourning the loss of a family member whose importance extended well beyond his public career.
Phiri said the family will continue to cherish memories of Banda and the role he played in their lives. His contribution to the family, he noted, is something that will remain with them even as they come to terms with his absence.
Banda’s death has attracted tributes from colleagues, friends, relatives and members of the wider Malawian community, reflecting the impact he had on people who knew him in different capacities.
For his family, however, the loss is particularly personal. They have lost a brother, relative and trusted member of the family whose presence brought comfort and support.
As the family prepares to lay Banda to rest, Phiri’s message captures the pain of losing someone who was regarded not simply as a prominent public figure, but as a cherished brother whose absence will be felt for years to come.
