FAWEMA Urges United Front to Advance Girl Child Education in Chitipa
The Chairperson of the Forum for African Women Educationalists in Malawi (FAWEMA) for Chitipa Zone, Stain Kitamura, has called for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to uplift girl child education in the district.

Speaking on Saturday during a fundraising event at Nachiwe Primary School grounds, Kitamura emphasized the urgent need to address the unique challenges girls face in the border district, including vulnerability to cross-border trade and early marriages driven by financial pressures and local businessmen.
“Girls in this district face immense social and economic pressures that hinder their education. We must act collectively to create an environment where they can learn, grow, and succeed,” Kitamura said.
The event aimed to mobilize resources for awareness campaigns that advocate for girls’ right to education. Kitamura stressed that empowering girls through education not only transforms their lives but also strengthens communities and the nation at large.
Thamson Phiri, Coordinator for Primary Education Advisors in Chitipa, commended FAWEMA’s persistent advocacy. “FAWEMA’s efforts are inspiring. We call upon other stakeholders to come forward with financial and material support to sustain and expand these important initiatives,” Phiri said.

The fundraising event was hailed as a significant milestone in the fight to keep girls in school, with stakeholders expressing optimism that the momentum gained will lead to lasting impact in the district.
