Bicycle taxi operator robbed after being given poisonous beverage by customer in Mzimba
Police at Jenda have launched a manhunt for an unknown criminal who robbed Moses Ndhlozi 34, of his bicycle and an Itel phone after giving him a beverage which is believed to have been poisoned and made him unconscious while riding on October 08, 2023 at Kapopo in the district.
It is alleged that, the victim on October 08, 2023 left Jenda around 06:00 AM after being hired by an unknown person to be taken to Lundazi in Zambia through Mqocha border. Whilst in transit they stopped at Kapopo Mhlanga where the customer bought two mojo beverages which he put in his bag and they started off.
After moving not for so long they once again stopped, this time around he bought two vanilla biscuits and offered Moses one packet and a bottle of mojo beverage which he produced from his bag.
It is believed that soon after eating and as they were moving Moses started feeling dizziness, stomachache, and diarrhoea; instantly he became powerless and fell from the bicycle. This unknown customer later robbed his phone, the bicycle and vanished to unknown destination.
Moses was taken to Mqocha Police Unit by well-wishers and he was referred to Kalikumbi health centre where he is receiving treatment. Investigations are under way to trace and apprehend this unknown criminal.
Meanwhile, police are advising all bicycle and motorcycle operators to always be vigilant against unknown clients who ask for suspicious destinations especially around Kapopo as this a new system used by criminals.
The police are also advising operators to be cautious when offered food or beverages from their clients.
Moses Ndhlozi hails from Msakasilo village, Traditional Authority Mnyanje in Kasungu District.
