Old Mutual Pumps K7 Million to Mzuzu City Council to Train Mzuzu Youths

Old Mutual Group yesterday in Mzuzu donated an amount of 7 million kwacha to Mzuzu City Council (MCC) to train 45 youths around the green city with an aim of empowering the youth and boost employment opportunities in Mzuzu.

MCC will train the youths through SANWECKA Tech. Companion.

Speaking after handing over the donation Old Mutual’s CEO, Mrs. Edith Jiya, said their main aim is to increase youth employment and urban skills development for economic growth.

“Our commitment is to increase the sources of employment in the country. We believe that investing in the skills of our youth, especially in urban areas, is crucial for the overall development of the economy,” said Jiya.

Yotam Mtafya, Director of Parks, Leisure, and Environment at Mzuzu City Council, expressed gratitude to Old Mutual for their generous support.

He welcomed the initiative as a significant development for the city and encouraged the participating youth to make the most of the opportunity.

Gilbert Misinde, the Regional Manager of Sanwecka, encouraged the active participation of more women in the programme, highlighting the contributions women make regardless of gender-specific roles.

He also expressed gratitude to the Mzuzu City Council for their assistance in identifying eligible youth for the programme.

Old Mutual made the donation after pumping 5 million kwacha to Blantyre City Council to train 30 youths, a program which SANWECKA said bared the desired fruits.
