Chakwera appoints New Malawi Defense Force Commander

In exercise of section 161(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi,Present Dr.Lazarus Chakwera who is also the Commander in-Chief of Malawi Defense Force has Tuesday 11July 23 appointed Lt.Paul Valentino Phiri as the new Commander of Malawi Defense Force.
According to the press statement the Guardian has seen and signed by Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet(OPC)Calleen Zamba, Genera Phiri has started serving his new office with the immediate effect from the date.
“His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera,President of the Republic of Malawi and Commander in-Malawi Chief of Malawi Defense Force has appointed Lt.General Paul Valentino Phiri as the Commander of Defense Force and has promoted him yo the rank of General with immediate affect” reads part of the statement.
Lt.General Paul Valentino Phiri has substituted General Vincent Nundwe who was also put into same position by Dr Chakwera in the past three years.
The press statement has further indicated that the government on behalf of the nation recommended the out going Commander General Nundwe for serving the office with perfection even during the difficulties the country was passing through.
In the past our country had chaos of misunderstandings on security wise and the security sectors in the country partially compromised the services outputs due to different political affiliations,but Nundwe maintained the powers vested in him by remaining neutral and control the sectors at large.
