SMD react on traditional believes and rumours about Cholera

Society of Medical Doctors of Malawi( SMD) points out traditional believes and rumours about Cholera among patients and doctors lead to misunderstandings.

Spokes person of the organisation Dr Zaziwe Gunda is suddened by the consent of many Malawians who think doctors create this diseases.

“People should understand that this disease is among us and this is real not doctors faking it citing examples of Mgona people in Lilongwe and Balaka people where doctors were beaten due to misapprehension”.

He further calls upon
organisations and Traditional leaders to play a great role in civic educating community members about cholera.

Currently the Ministry of health is distributing Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS ),chlorine door to door and informing the public about cholera and its signs and symptoms through short message service ( SMS).
