Malawi’s top-flight football will proceed without some of the country’s most prominent venues after authorities declared Kamuzu Stadium, Nankhaka Stadium and Mzuzu Stadium unfit to host matches due to failure to meet required standards.

The decision, aimed at improving match-day safety and quality of play, has forced clubs to seek alternative venues as the season progresses. The move underscores a growing push to ensure all facilities comply with regulations on infrastructure, security, and pitch conditions.

Despite the exclusion of the three major grounds, several stadiums across the country have been cleared to host TNM Super League matches. These include Chitipa Stadium, Karonga Stadium, Rumphi Stadium, Chitowe Stadium, Champion Stadium, Aubrey Dimba Stadium, Silver Stadium, Civo Stadium, Bingu National Stadium, Dedza Stadium, Mulanje Stadium, Joyce Chitsulo Stadium, Zomba Stadium and Mpira Stadium.

In the second tier, the NBS Bank National Division League will be played at approved venues such as Owen Malijani Stadium, Kasungu Stadium, Balaka Stadium and Mchinji Mini Stadium.

The development is expected to put pressure on authorities managing Kamuzu, Nankhaka and Mzuzu stadiums to upgrade their facilities in line with national standards. For fans, it may also mean longer travel distances to follow their teams, while clubs face logistical adjustments early in the campaign.

Football stakeholders have since called for urgent renovations to ensure the affected stadiums return to the approved list and continue playing a central role in Malawi’s football landscape.
