Haiya Confident Scorchers, Flames Will Deliver with Government Support

has expressed confidence in Malawi’s national football teams following a fruitful meeting with Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture held at on Wednesday.

Haiya said the meeting focused on key football development issues, including preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and Malawi’s ambitions of qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

According to Haiya, the Malawi Women’s National Team, the Scorchers, are determined to make a strong impact at WAFCON and will not travel merely to participate.

“We assured the Minister that the Scorchers are going to the WAFCON to compete and not just participate,” said Haiya.

He further emphasized that qualification for the 2027 AFCON remains one of the major targets for the Malawi senior men’s national football team, the Flames, stressing that proper preparations backed by Government support will be vital for a successful qualifying campaign.

Haiya also revealed that discussions with the Minister covered several other important football development matters affecting the growth of the game in the country.

Meanwhile, Gangata assured the Football Association of Malawi of Government’s continued support towards football development and national team activities.
