Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Fleetwood Haiya has hailed the outcomes of the 47th CAF Ordinary General Assembly, which took place today in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

Haiya emphasized that the discussions, particularly around the expansion of youth and women’s football, resonate strongly with FAM’s strategic direction of investing in grassroots development and creating inclusive pathways for talent across Malawi.

In a landmark move, CAF also unveiled a USD 100,000 financial support package for clubs eliminated in the preliminary rounds of Interclub competitions. According to Haiya, this initiative is a “progressive step” towards easing the financial burden on teams and ensuring they remain competitive at both domestic and continental levels.

“The resolutions made at this Assembly are a reflection of CAF’s commitment to inclusive growth of football across Africa, and they align well with our vision at FAM to promote sustainability, equal opportunity, and long-term competitiveness of the game in Malawi,” Haiya noted.

The Assembly brought together football leaders from across the continent to deliberate on policies, financial reforms, and structural adjustments aimed at propelling African football to higher standards globally.
