MEC Chairperson Denies Receiving MCP Complaints on Election Irregularities
The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has denied receiving any official complaints from the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) regarding alleged irregularities in the 2025 General Elections.
Speaking during a media briefing on Saturday night, MEC Chairperson Justice Anabel Mtalimanja said the Commission had not been formally approached by MCP with any grievances.
This follows earlier claims by MCP vice presidential candidate Vitumbiko Mumba, who told supporters and the media that the party had already submitted evidence of vote manipulation, alleging that some figures were deliberately altered at certain polling centres.
But Justice Mtalimanja insisted that the Commission had no such documentation on record. “MEC only acts on formal complaints lodged through the right procedures. As of now, no official complaint from MCP has reached us,” she said.
The conflicting statements have left questions on whether MCP followed the official process or if the documents are yet to be delivered.
Justice Mtalimanja urged all political parties to use the proper complaint-handling channels, assuring Malawians that the Commission remains committed to fairness, transparency, and credibility as it concludes the electoral process.
