Kasunda Courts China-Africa AI Partnership, Highlights Malawi’s Digital Future
Malawian 2030 presidential aspirant Jani Grey Kasunda has called for stronger China-Africa collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure, saying such partnerships could accelerate technological development and economic transformation across Africa.
Kasunda made the remarks during the Guangxi Artificial Intelligence and New-Generation Information Technology Special Session held in Nanning, China, where policymakers, technology experts, researchers and business leaders discussed the future of AI and cross-border digital cooperation.
During a panel discussion, Kasunda outlined Africa’s growing demand for digital infrastructure and AI-driven solutions, urging Chinese partners to consider Guangxi as a gateway for expanding digital cooperation between China and Africa.
He emphasized the need for increased investment in technology, skills development and innovation, saying stronger collaboration would promote the exchange of technology, capital and expertise while creating new opportunities for African economies.
The forum also featured presentations on AI applications in public services, smart city development, digital governance and talent development, with participants exploring ways to strengthen cooperation between China, ASEAN countries and Africa.
On the sidelines of the event, Kasunda also sampled AI-powered smart glasses capable of providing real-time language translation, showcasing emerging technologies that could help bridge communication barriers in international business, education and diplomacy.
Organizers said the conference aimed to strengthen partnerships among governments, research institutions and private companies while promoting innovation and the growth of the digital economy across borders.
