The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has announced that results from all 229 constituencies have been successfully captured and transmitted into the Results Management System, marking a significant milestone in the vote-tallying process.

Delivering the Commission’s 11th update at the National Tally Centre in Lilongwe, MEC Chairperson Justice Anabel Mtalimanja confirmed that all councils have processed their results and compiled district summaries, which have since been posted for public viewing.

She revealed that 35 out of 36 councils have already delivered their results to the National Tally Centre, with only Mangochi District yet to submit.

Justice Mtalimanja further urged political parties to exercise restraint in their public statements, warning them against prematurely declaring victory as this could mislead Malawians.

“Only MEC has the mandate to officially declare who is victorious,” she emphasized.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accuracy, assuring the public that results will be officially declared within the legally mandated eight-day timeframe.

In conclusion, Justice Mtalimanja reminded stakeholders that all complaints must be formally submitted in writing through the proper channels, emphasizing that MEC will thoroughly verify, reconcile, and validate all results before making a final declaration.
